Dr. David Meyer – Veterinarian/Owner
Dr. David Meyer is the owner of Vivian Animal Hospital. Dr. Meyer was born in Vivian, La, and as a young boy his family moved to Haughton, La. He is a high school graduate of Haughton High School and went on to graduate from Centenary College in 1978 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He then decided to follow his life’s dream of becoming a veterinarian. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science at Louisiana Tech University, then attended Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1987. Geaux Tigers!
After graduating, Dr. Meyer worked at Benton Animal Hospital before returning to Vivian and opening his own practice in 1988. He enjoys working on all animals, great and small. He met his wife, Leslie, at Louisiana Tech University. They have three wonderful children, Kristen, Matthew and Alecia, and four grandsons. In his spare time, Dr. Meyer enjoys training and field trialing his black labrador, Jake. Together they have achieved the status of Hunting Retriever Champion in 2015. Dr. Meyer also loves cheering on his LSU Tigers!
Dr. Alecia Foster – Veterinarian
Dr. Alecia Foster was born and raised in Vivian, La. She has always had a special love for animals and realized at a young age she would follow in her father’s footsteps and pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Dr. Foster attended Louisiana Tech University as an undergraduate majoring in Animal Science. During her undergraduate studies, she participated in many campus organizations, and was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She was accepted into Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 and graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2017.
After graduating, Dr. Foster began practicing at Benton Animal Hospital in Benton, La. In June 2018, she officially joined our practice as an associate veterinarian. She enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine, but has a deep interest and love for Soft Tissue/Orthopedic Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Dermatology. Dr. Foster and her husband, Tylar, welcomed their first child, Eli Ryan, in April 2018. In her spare time, Dr. Foster enjoys quality time with her family and two dogs (Zoey and Moto), traveling, hunting and fishing, reading, exercising, and riding horses.
Leslie – Practice Administrator
Leslie is the wife of Dr. David Meyer. Their relationship began while attending Louisiana Tech University where Dr. Meyer tutored her in accounting. That relationship grew and later led to their marriage in the summer of 1983. Together they have three children, Kristen, Matthew and Alecia. Throughout the years Leslie has helped at the clinic and also accompanied Dr. Meyer on his farm calls. She learned how to groom and for many years worked as the pet salon’s head groomer. Leslie is very talented and enjoyed passing on her talents by teaching others to groom as well. She has recently retired from grooming to be a full-time ‘GiGi’ to their four grandsons – Jaydin, Peyton, Rylan and Eli. However, you will see Leslie lending a helping hand on Saturdays where she loves greeting clients at the front desk. When not working or watching the grandsons, she enjoys spoiling her yorkie, Minnie, but most of all spending time with the love of her life, Dr. Meyer.
Kristen – Practice & Client Service Manager
Kristen has been a vital member of our practice since the fall of 2001. She is our longest standing employee and has over 20 years of management experience. She is trained in all facets of our hospital’s operations and loves working in the veterinary field. She is compassionate about her job and is dedicated to making sure all of our client’s and patient’s needs are met.
Kristen is married to her husband of 25 years, Kevin who serves as the pastor of Northwoods Baptist Church in Blanchard, La. Together they have two wonderful children. Their daughter Kaylin is set to graduate from NSU School of Nursing in December 2018. Their son Kameron attends Northwood High School where he is a senior and will graduate in May 2018. When not working Kristen loves spending time with her family. She also enjoys spending time outdoors, running, hiking and kayaking.
Carey – Head Veterinary & Surgical Assistant
Carey joined the Vivian Animal Hospital Team in the spring of 2008. She has been a great asset to our practice. Over the years she has been well trained and has worked in all areas of our hospital. Whether in an exam room, performing a dental procedure, in the equine area, or in surgery, you can always find her assisting one of the doctors. Her favorite area to work in would most definitely be in surgery. She also feels it very rewarding to care for our hospitalized patients and nurse them back to good health.
Carey is married to her high school sweetheart, Jason. Together the have two beautiful daughters, Megan and Taylor, and they are both part of our VAH team. Carey has 10 dogs including a very spoiled catahoula and pit bull (Bandit and Gus). When not working, Carey enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and just about anything outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
Renee – Pet Stylist
Renee joined our Vivian Animal Hospital family in 2012. She came to us after working 10 years in the veterinary field, bringing plenty of experience and a wealth of compassion along with her. Until transitioning to our full-time pet stylist in November 2017, Renee enjoyed her role as a veterinary assistant and kennel manager. Her current role as a pet stylist allows her to enjoy quality time making sure your pet is spoiled and leaves our salon looking their very best. Renee is an avid animal lover, with a special interest in chihuahuas. When not working, she enjoys gardening and planting flowers. She also loves spending time with her granddaughters, Miley and Harper, her horse (Scooter), and her 4 dogs (Kassie, Khloe, Finn and Kletus).
Megan – Client & Animal Care Specialist
Megan has been a member of our team since 2013. She graduated from North Caddo Magnet High School in 2015 and is currently attending Bossier Parish Community College working toward a career as a physical therapy assistant. At any given time you will find her assisting in the exam room, bathing, feeding, walking, or playing with all the animals in our boarding facility. If there is a puppy around you are sure to find it in her arms. Megan is the proud pet parent of Sage and Molly. When not working or studying she enjoys reading, playing card games, and fishing. Megan and her fiance, Josh, will be getting married in October 2018. Sadly, she will be leaving us and moving to Lake Charles after the wedding.
Taylor – Client & Animal Care Specialist
Taylor joined our team in March 2018. She graduated from North Caddo Magnet High School in 2018 and will continue her education at Louisiana State University Shreveport majoring in early childhood education, with plans to teach K-3. Taylor is very dedicated to her work and loves working with all our patients. When not studying or working, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, her pitbull (Gus), and fishing.
